Watch Crystal Service

Watch Crystal Service

The transparent “glass” which protects the dial of the watch is called a crystal. There are three common types of crystals: Acrylic, Mineral and Sapphire. A sapphire crystal is the most expensive, scratch-resistant and durable type of crystal. Watch crystals can break or crack from impact or by dropping a watch on a hard surface. The watch specialists at GFJ can replace ALMOST ANY watch crystal, and when possible, will carefully buff the crystal of your timepiece to remove unsightly scratches or marks, restoring it to its original condition. When you would like to have your watch’s crystal replaced or refinished our watch specialists use the following procedures.

Crystal Replacement

Disassemble the watch case and remove the movement to protect it while the crystal is being repaired.

Carefully remove the crystal from the case.

Cautiously buff the crystal to remove scratches or other distracting imperfections.

Reinstall the crystal along with the movement and perform a time test to ensure accuracy.

If no such crystal can be found, we may be able to custom make a new crystal for your watch.

Install the new crystal along with the movement and the watch and time test the watch to ensure its accuracy.

Service to your watch’s crystal can greatly enhance its overall appearance and value.
